There are two types of pain: the physical and emotional discomfort that’s an inevitable part of life, and the suffering we generate ourselves through our reactions.
We all experience pain, whether it’s the backache from a long day or the heartbreak of losing someone dear to us.
But the suffering? That’s something we build up through habits of craving — constantly chasing after what’s pleasurable and avoiding what we fear, often leading us to feel frustrated, disappointed, and even stuck.
The challenge for many of us is managing the constant drive — what I call the “go engine.” That’s where we’re always pursuing the next goal, the next reward. We get trapped in cycles of wanting, dissatisfaction, and comparing ourselves to others, leading to needless suffering.
In this talk, I explore how we can break free from that loop, live more in the present, and achieve what we want in life without getting weighed down by stress and disappointment.
This is a practical discussion on how to cultivate a sense of contentment and fulfillment right here, right now — even as you pursue your dreams. We’ll talk about mindful awareness, accepting frustrations, and shifting into a space where you can feel “enough” in your life, your work, and your relationships.
One of the best ways to cultivate more of a sense of feeling content is to practice gratitude for all that you already have. So I also offered a meditation on Marinating in Thankfulness — I hope you find both helpful.
