Wednesday Weekly Meditation and Talk with Kamilah Majied
Much research has shown that meditation is one of the very best ways to cultivate the brain states of self-awareness, calm and inner peace, lovingkindness, mindfulness, and happiness – as well as strengthen the immune system and nurture other health benefits.
Kamilah Majied will be our guest teacher for this Wednesday’s Talk and Meditation. Dr. Kamilah Majied is Professor of Social Work at Cal State Monterey Bay and the author of Joyfully Just: Black Wisdom and Buddhist Insights for Liberated Living (published by Sounds True). She is also a contemplative inclusion and equity consultant, mental health therapist, clinical educator, author, and researcher. Her work brings together decades of contemplative practice, leadership, and a commitment to transforming oppressive patterns. Through training, teaching, therapy, writing, and organizational consultation, she supports individuals and communities in building deeper relationships, greater insight, and more equitable conditions for collective well-being. Dr. Majied’s approach centers wonder, humor, compassion, and the power of contemplative practice to help people access their potential and contribute to meaningful personal and social change.
These teachings are offered freely, at no charge. And if you like, you may wish to participate in the age-old tradition of generosity through making an offering yourself – called “dāna” – to support Kamilah and Rick’s Wednesday Meditations. Generosity itself is a beautiful practice that opens and gladdens the heart, relaxes the contraction of “self,” and ripples out into the world to touch many people – and perhaps, eventually, even oneself.
